The audiobook is read by Kathleen McInerney who does a great job of voicing not only Rory, but the other characters as well. The second book by Wendy Mass about birthdays, Mass captures just what it feels like to be 12 and want to grow up as fast as possible. ![]() Rory soon finds out how true that is, as things don’t go quiet as planned. But, no longer! A few days before her birthday Rory meets a kind old woman who cryptically tells her “you won’t get what you want, Rory Swenson, until you see what you need.” and promptly disappears. The only people who pay her any attention are her over protective parents who “notice me too much”. Rory has spent her entire life fading into the background and not being able to do what the other kids can do. Rory pulls out her worn shoebox filled with all her “when your twelve” notes and makes one final list.
